Why do people take Ambien?
People need sleep. That is a fact. Your body cannot repair itself without adequate amounts of sleep. Another sad fact is that many people suffer from insomnia, the chronic inability to fall asleep or remain asleep for an adequate amount of time. The majority of people try a natural method to try to relieve the insomnia, such as herbal teas or even yoga. If these things do not work, they might turn to prescription drugs. Ambien is one of those drugs.
Ambien Abuse
Many people report that they experience a “high” by not allowing themselves to fall asleep once they have taken Ambien. Hallucinations, both visual and auditory, have been reported during this time. Intentionally trying to experience this “high” would be considered abuse.
After a couple of weeks, the person develops a tolerance to Ambien and has to increase the dosage to achieve the same result. Continuing to take a drug longer than it was prescribed is a sign of abuse.
What are signs of addiction?
Once a user goes to these lengths, there is a good chance he or she has become addicted to Ambien. At this point, the user may attempt to use the drug by over-medicating, crushing and snorting, or even cooking so it can be injected directly into the veins. The potential for addiction is great with Ambien.
