Depressants Addiction

Depressants Addiction

Depressants are drugs that slow down the typical function of the nervous system. They were created mainly to calm the nerves and lower inhibition, and anxiety.

Downers, barbs, goofballs, yellow jacket, blue devils, ludes are some of the street names of depressants. These drugs are injected, swallowed, snorted and smoked, and they are in powder, liquid, and pill forms.

Depressants barbiturates. Since they’re readily available, abuse is rampant. The abuse of barbiturates is common and sometimes not noticed until a person has become addicted. As a matter of fact, individuals that silently take barb pills to sleep are the first to suffer from depressant drugs. These drugs can only be bought with a prescription, nevertheless a lot of people are still able to get them and abuse them.

The person can experience poor judgment, slurred speech, poor coordination, confusion and mood swings. In addition, any individual that become addicted to this drug will find themselves in bed most of the time.

Other abusers that use barbiturates to stimulate them will develop high tolerance for these drugs and make stimulation even more possible. Likewise, some of the abusers can feel that their inhibitions are also released.

Depressants addiction is dangerous. The percentage of individuals dying from irregular use like accidental or intentional overdose of these drugs, brings about 3,000 deaths annually.

Chronic abuse of this substance will eventually lead to dependence as the tolerance increases if not stopped immediately. An abuser that immediately withdraws will experience headaches, twitches, weakness, anxiety, muscle, blood pressure drops and nausea even after just 1 day of not using the depressant drugs. Mixing these drugs with alcohol can spell disaster and even death.
