What is GHB?
Gamma hydroxybutyrate is an illicit drug that has a rather rare ability to cross the blood brain barrier giving it a comparatively powerful effect on consciousness and the creation of euphoria in the user.

Why people use GHB?
This potent effect on the consciousness of the user and the creation of euphoria in the user contribute to its use. First it was synthesized to be used as a possible anesthetic, but was quickly rejected by the American Medical Association. It has also been promoted among bodybuilders as a drug to improve muscle tone by prompting the body to create growth hormones that are associated with sleep.

GHB Addiction is more common among the social groups of frequent raves and clubs. It is sometimes used as a recreational drug and sometimes it is used as a date rape drug. Its ability to effectively render the user unconscious has also prompted some to use it as a robbery drug. Some bodybuilders and athletes continue to use the drug as well.

GHB addiction is most common among athletes and other daily users of the drug.
What are the signs of GHB addiction?
In regard to actually identifying the substance in users there are a number of singular difficulties. Effects of the drug can end quite suddenly.

What are the side effects of GHB?
The effects of GHB on individuals vary. Even the same dosage in a single individual may vary from one use to another. This factor and the nature of the effects often contribute to the potential hazards of GHB use.

  • In low doses an individual may experience euphoria and depressed inhibitions.
  • Cardiovascular side effects may include slowed heart rate.
  • Usage may also include seizure-like muscle contractions.
  • When used with other depressants the effects are more likely to be deadly.

GHB is unpredictable and amnesiac-like side effects may persist after the use.
