What is Oxycontin?
Oxycontin is an opioid analgesic that comes under the category of being narcotic. It is an opium derivative and contains active ingredients like Percodan and Percocet.

What are some street names for OxyContin?
The common street names used for OxyContin are: OxyContin Pill, Doctor shopping, Hillbilly heroin, kicker, Oxy, and Oxycotton.

How is OxyContin used?
OxyContin can be chewed, crushed and then snorted. It is soluble in water; hence it can be injected also.

Is OxyContin addicting?
OxyContin is highly addicting as it gives a high that can be compared to that of heroin. Many patients who suffer from immense pain become dependent on this drug for further pain relief but gradually fall into its addiction. The full scale addiction can lead to severe consequences.

What are side effects of OxyContin?
The main hazard of OxyContin is respiratory depression. This condition is more frequent in aged patients or incapacitated patients. Other side effects include nausea, constipation, dizziness, vomiting, dry mouth and sweating. Weakness is generally one of the main side effects. Other side effects include delayed digestion, diminished production of pancreatic juice, and other gastric juices.

OxyContin may trigger histamine release, which may manifest as red eyes, sweating and pruritus. Orthostatic hypotension may also occur.

What are some signs of OxyContin use?
Overdose of OxyContin symptoms are slow breathing, loss of consciousness, utter confusion, weakness, loss of consciousness, small pupils, nausea, vomiting and even coma.
